CARLO ZERBARO / ALESSANDRO TRENTIN

Carlo Zerbaro is a designer and the founder of &'Costa lighting company. Zerbaro's experience began working with his family in the hydro-electronic engineering field. With this background, he attended Biennale Venezia where he studied architecture and communication research in design. In the mid-70's he took up photography and began his designer activity in 1981, cooperating with different furniture firms. Not long after, he founded MASTROCILIEGIA Studio which specialized in industrial design and communication consultancy. Zerbaro founded &'Costa in 2000 with the aim of introducing advanced design in lighting. With the help of young artists, designers, and skilled technicians, Zerbaro established a factory where experience and creativity melt together to produce and distribute his own idea of “lighting expression.”

Carlo Zerbaro is associated with the ADI (Association for Industrial Design). He is also a member of the ICSID (International Council of Societies of Industrial Design), the BEDA (Bureau of European Designers Associations) and the ICOGRADA (International Council of Graphic Design Associations). Zerbaro has been the recipient of many awards and honors at various contests and shows.

By applying the knowledge it has gained through extensive research, light is expressed through transparency, visibility and brightness. Materials employed to achieve these effects include wood, steel, glass, ceramic as well as metal mesh, thin wooden veneers, fluted blown glass and polycarbonate sheets, giving these objects of art fundamental and functional design.
