A plastic luminous disc consisting of two polycarbonate shells, particularly well adapted to the latest generation of slim, circular fluorescent bulbs. The lamp is so thin that it merges imperceptibly with the surface of the ceiling. The finishes, white, metallized and transparent are created simultaneously to the mould by using the new “in mould" decoration technology.

Alberto Meda received his master in mechanical engineering at Politecnico of Milan in 1969.

He has worked as a product engineering designer and consultant for: Alfa Romeo Auto, Ansaldo Sistemi Industriali, Alias, Cinelli, Colombo Design, Gaggio, Italtel Telematica, Kartell, Luceplan, Legrand, Mandarina Duck, Omron Japan, Philips, TCI, and Vitra.

Meda was awarded with the "Compasso d'oro" for the Lola Lamp and Metropoli Lamp by Luceplan. In 2005, he was the Hon Royal Designer for Industry RSA London.

Since 1994 MoMA NY includes in its permanent collection: "Light light" chair, "soft light" chair, "Longframe" by Alias and "On-Off" lamp by Luceplan. Meda works and lives in Milan.

Paolo Rizzatto, architect, lives and works in Milan, where he was born. He combines deep explorations of interior lighting with his interest in design and architecture.

He has also designed for Arteluce, Artemide, Alias, Cassina, Nemo, Molteni, Knoll, TCI and Philips.

The beauty of efficiency. In the years leading up to the foundation of Luceplan, Riccardo Sarfatti consolidated his instinctive entrepreneurial flair while working first with his father at Arteluce, the historic firm founded by Gino Sarfatter at the end of World War II, and later with Flos, the prestigious Brescia-based company that took over arteluce in the early 1970s.

In 1978 Paolo Rizzato, Riccardo Sarfatti and Sandra Severi, who had been together at the Politecnico University in Milan, founded Luceplan, concentrating initially on the design and making of prestige interior lighting. Luceplan specialized in projects for particularly challenging and high quality situations and locations, including numerous historic buildings.

Luceplan continued to forge ahead by insisting on a clear idea of a business in which design is not "styling", that is to say not "added design", but rather the outcome of a continuous and coordinated exchange of different company functions. In the projects which Luceplan puts into production, there is a constant search for artistic simplicity as the solution to complexity.

Luceplan lighting immediately conveys a sense that they are the product of inspired, incessant research. Impervious to the dictates of fashion, these artistic strokes nevertheless reflect contemporary trends and elements. Luceplan is dedicated to promoting experimentation, innovation and technology, improved performance standards, inventiveness and beauty.
